All 435 seats in the US House of Representatives are up for election on November 3, 2026. The outcome serves as a direct measure of public sentiment nearly two years into President Donald Trump’s second term. Analysts are tracking how district-level voting patterns have changed since the 2024 presidential contest.
The methodology compares the Republican minus Democratic margin in each 2026 House race with the same margin from the 2024 presidential election. For instance, if Trump won a district by 10 points in 2024, but the Republican House candidate wins by only 4 points in 2026, that indicates a 6-point shift toward Democrats. This calculation uses the share of all votes cast in each contest.
Researchers note that a House contest differs from a presidential race in several ways. Factors such as incumbency, local issues, and candidate selection influence the outcome. Voter turnout is also typically lower in midterm elections. Despite these variables, shifts across hundreds of districts provide a clear signal of the country’s political trajectory.
Real-time data tracking will only display results for districts that have counted at least 30% of the expected vote. This threshold helps prevent early returns from misleading observers. Districts that do not feature both a Democrat and a Republican on the ballot are excluded from the comparison. The 2024 presidential data is sourced from the Associated Press and has been recalculated to match current district boundaries.
The distribution of political power in the House will depend on how many districts move toward either party. A strong night for Democrats would result in more districts shifting from a Republican margin to a Democratic one. Conversely, a strong Republican showing would see the opposite trend. These charts will update continuously as votes are counted throughout the night.
