Neve Campbell will return to the role of Sidney Prescott for the eighth entry in the Scream franchise. The actress confirmed the news to the Associated Press on Monday night. She stated that the film is currently in the pipeline while also mentioning she has two other shows in development.

Campbell has served as the central figure in the series since the 1996 original. She starred in the first four films directed by Wes Craven. The franchise was later revamped with a 2022 reboot that focused on new characters. Campbell appeared in a smaller capacity in that installment.

Her involvement in the series has fluctuated in recent years. Campbell skipped Scream VI due to salary disagreements. Following the release of that film, Melissa Barrera was removed from the project over social media posts regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. Jenna Ortega subsequently left the series voluntarily.

Campbell returned for Scream 7, produced by Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures. That film was released in February and centered on her character and her daughter Tatum, played by Isabel May. The movie became the highest-grossing entry in the franchise. It earned $208 million worldwide against a production budget of $45 million.

The development of Scream 8 was confirmed one month after the previous film's release. Lilla and Nora Zuckerman are writing the script for the upcoming installment. The project is currently being developed by Spyglass Media.

Kevin Williamson, who wrote the 1996 original and directed Scream 7, has indicated he will likely step back from a major creative role for the next film. He told Hello Sidney in March that he intends to work on other television projects. He described his potential future involvement in the Scream series as simply being part of the family again.
