A band of showers and thunderstorms is scheduled to move through the Charlotte area Wednesday night and into Thursday morning as a frontal system approaches from the west.

The weather pattern begins with dry conditions Tuesday. Highs will reach the mid-70s during the day, while overnight lows drop into the 50s. Wednesday will stay dry in the Piedmont during daylight hours, with temperatures climbing to the mid and upper 70s. Showers may occur in the mountainous regions during the afternoon.

The wet weather arrives late Wednesday evening. Heavier thunderstorms are expected to accompany the rain as it moves through. Once the system clears early Thursday morning, skies will turn partly sunny. Afternoon temperatures on Thursday will rebound to the mid-70s.

A second round of precipitation is likely to impact the Charlotte area late Thursday night. This rain is expected to linger through midday Friday. High temperatures on Friday will remain in the mid-70s before a clearing trend begins in the evening.

The weekend will bring mostly sunny skies and a drop in temperature to more seasonal levels. Saturday highs are forecast to reach the lower 70s, while Sunday highs will fall to the upper 60s.
