A collision between two vehicles on Halloween night in Harford County killed two people and injured a third. Maryland State Police responded to the intersection of Jarrettsville Pike and Hess Road just before 7:20 p.m. on Monday. The crash involved a Volvo traveling east on Hess Road and a Volkswagen moving southbound on Jarrettsville Pike. The two vehicles struck each other at the intersection.
Brian Miller, 61, and his wife, Kimberly Anne Miller, 56, were passengers in the Volvo. MSP identified Brian Miller as the deputy executive director of the Maryland Port Authority. He had worked for the agency for 26 years. Kimberly Miller was driving the Volvo at the time of the accident. The driver of the other vehicle, 19-year-old Matthew Thomson Howard Waylett of Monkton, Maryland, sustained injuries.
Waylett was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. His condition was not immediately known. The Harford County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration closed the road for more than three hours to investigate the scene. Investigators said speed may have been a contributing factor in the collision.
Brian Miller was a native of Baltimore. He graduated from Loyola Blakefield High School and attended McDaniel College. A statement from the Port of Baltimore confirmed the deaths of Miller and his wife. The agency noted that Miller held various positions within the organization since joining in 2000. The MSP crash team continues to lead the investigation. Authorities ask anyone with information to contact the Bel Air barrack at 410-879-2101.
