A 37-year-old man lies in critical condition after being shot multiple times during a dispute over a minor vehicle collision in Southwest Philadelphia on Saturday evening. Officers from the 18th District arrived near 57th Street and Woodland Avenue shortly after 6 p.m. following reports of a person with a gun. They found the victim on the 2100 block of South 57th Street with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, where his condition remained serious.

Preliminary accounts indicate the victim was sitting in the passenger seat of a parked white Jeep. A woman occupied the driver's seat. The driver of a gray Pontiac parked in front of the Jeep allegedly struck the vehicle's front end while backing up. The victim exited his car to confront the Pontiac driver. During the argument, the Pontiac driver allegedly drew a firearm and fired multiple shots at close range before fleeing the scene.

Investigators quickly gathered details from the area, including a description of the suspect's vehicle. Officers located the car a short time later and detained the suspect without incident. Police noted that the suspect had prior arrests and distinct physical characteristics that aided in his rapid identification.

The investigation focuses on whether the shooting stemmed directly from the argument following the collision. It remained unclear on Saturday whether the victim and the suspect knew each other before the encounter. No charges have been announced yet, and the case is ongoing.
