Nicolas Cage is staying in hotels while repairs are assessed on his Malibu home. The actor confirmed this temporary living arrangement to a panel at Los Angeles Comic Con on Saturday.

The disruption began on September 8 when a sinkhole opened near the property. The collapse measured approximately 30 by 60 feet and reached a depth of about 25 feet. The shift in the ground swallowed part of the driveway and damaged the deck of the $10.5 million beachfront mansion.

Malibu officials declared a local emergency in the immediate aftermath. They cited concerns about a potential gas leak and the risk of further deterioration from high tides and rain associated with Hurricane Marie. Emergency responders restricted access to the zone due to ground instability. Thirty-one properties in the vicinity were evacuated during the initial response.

Cage addressed the situation directly when asked about his Halloween plans. He told the audience, 'I'm currently a little bit homeless.' He added that the incident meant he did not have normal trick-or-treaters to enjoy on the holiday. Despite the change in routine, he remained committed to celebrating with his family.

The actor plans to take his four-year-old daughter, August Francesca Coppola Cage, to Santa Monica for trick-or-treating. This trip will allow the child to experience the holiday despite the disruption at their primary residence. Cage noted that he would return to his hotel accommodation after the outing.

For his evening entertainment, Cage intends to watch the classic horror film The Shining. He expressed appreciation for the director of that movie, noting the filmmaker was once nominated for worst director at the Razzie Awards. 'He directed the hell out of that movie,' Cage said. He added, 'I'm going to watch that tonight. After I put my daughter to bed, I'm going to put on The Shining.'

Local authorities have maintained vigilance as weather patterns from Hurricane Marie continue to influence the region. The declaration of a local emergency underscored the need to monitor conditions in areas prone to geological events. Residents in the affected area have since been able to return to their homes, though the zone remains under observation.

The recovery process for the damaged property continues while Cage manages his professional schedule from his temporary lodging. His public comments provided details on how the family is handling the logistics of the damaged home from a distance.
