The 2027 men's basketball recruiting landscape shifted sharply in the final days of October, with LSU overtaking established powers to claim the top ranking. The Tigers jumped from fourth place to first, a move driven by the addition of four highly rated players who solidified their roster depth.
According to ESPN's formula, which weights player quality and quantity, LSU now leads the field. The school secured commitments from No. 13 Reese Alston, No. 14 King Gibson, No. 18 Xavier Young, and No. 26 Ahmad Hudson. This cluster of top-30 talent places the program ahead of North Carolina, which holds the No. 2 spot, and Houston, which sits at No. 3.
North Carolina's class includes No. 7 Asa Montgomery and No. 20 Kager Knueppel. Jon Scheyer, who has won recruiting titles under previous regimes, is targeting additional blue-chippers. Houston, meanwhile, features No. 37 Oneal Delancy and No. 45 Darrell Davis. Kelvin Sampson has assembled a group that includes four top-100 players, a first for the program since the database began in 2007.
UConn, ranked fourth, benefits from the commitments of No. 9 NaVorro Bowman Jr. and No. 11 Jordan Page. This marks the first time in at least two decades that the Huskies have landed two five-star prospects in a single class. Indiana, at No. 5, added No. 12 Darius Wabbington, the highest-ranked center for the school since 2007.
The movement at the top reflects a surge in decision-making activity. Entering the final week of October, only one top-10 prospect had committed. That number changed when six five-star recruits, including No. 2 Demarcus Henry, announced their choices. This included one prospect who reclassified from the 2028 class.
A total of 37 top-15 prospects have now committed, with 78 players from the top 100 overall having declared their intentions. The early signing period runs from November 11 to November 18, a window that will likely reshape these standings. Schools such as Alabama, Arizona, Missouri, Rutgers, and Purdue also hold strong classes, with several entering the top 10 for the first time in recent years.
