The National Football League confirmed on Monday that Jay-Z will perform at the Super Bowl halftime show in February. It is the first time the hip-hop mogul will take the stage at the NFL championship game, although his company Roc Nation has produced the halftime segment since 2019.
Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has served as a key decision-maker in selecting performers for the annual event. The league did not clarify whether he would headline the show alone or share the stage with other artists. The NFL stated that anticipation regarding potential guest stars will now begin, specifically noting that his wife Beyonce is likely a top candidate.
The announcement followed a weekend when Jay-Z performed two concerts at the Los Angeles stadium that will host Super Bowl LXI. Those shows were part of a tour marking the 30th anniversary of his debut album Reasonable Doubt. The game is scheduled for February 14, 2027, in the Los Angeles area.
Jay-Z described the upcoming appearance as the culmination of a long career. He said, "From 'Reasonable Doubt' to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey. Thirty years of music, work, and culture on the world's biggest stage. This run continues to be a dream come true."
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said he was excited for fans to experience the artist's cultural impact. Goodell recalled that when he first agreed with Roc Nation to produce the show, he asked for one thing: that Jay-Z take the stage himself whenever the timing felt right.
The league said it looks forward to the performance as part of the broader celebration of the sport's biggest game.
