Bill Hader will voice the title character in a new live-action film based on Dr. Seuss’s 1957 classic. The movie reimagines the familiar story with a fresh plot that moves beyond the original book’s ending.
The story follows the Cat as he invades the home of a single mother and her two children. This intrusion sends the group into a separate world characterized by energy and danger. Director Alessandro Carloni explained that the production team used the source material as a foundation for this expanded narrative.
Carloni stated that the filmmakers decided to let the first three minutes of the movie mirror the book. After that point, the story follows the Cat to reveal that entertaining bored children on rainy days is his actual job. Hader described the final product as honest and moving while maintaining a strong comedic tone.
America Ferrera, who voices a character in the film, noted that the animation style shifts depending on the setting. She said she was pleased to see specific elements from the original book integrated into the new visual world. The cast includes Quinta Brunson, who welcomed the chance to offer a different perspective on the Seuss universe.
Brunson said the opportunity to participate in a new retelling felt like a creative challenge. The film balances content designed for young viewers with humor aimed at an adult audience. This dual approach aims to keep the story engaging for families watching together.
The movie features a musical number performed by the USC marching band. The track is a song by Taylor Swift. Hader joked that this specific detail might help him secure a good table at a restaurant in the future.
The new film follows the 2003 live-action adaptation starring Mike Myers. Dr. Seuss introduced the character in 1957, and the book remains one of the best-selling children’s titles in history.
