Paige Hart, age 2, is recovering at home in Fairbanks after surviving a head-on collision that killed her parents on October 19. The toddler sustained six broken bones in the crash but is healing rapidly, according to her family. She is currently in the care of her maternal and paternal relatives following the accident on the Parks Highway near Trapper Creek.
Alaska State Troopers determined that Sasha Hart, 38, was driving a Subaru Forester southbound when the vehicle crossed the center line. It collided head-on with a northbound Ford F-250 driven by David Hart, 41. Both Harts died in the impact. Paige was the only other person in the Subaru and was the sole survivor of the crash.
Family members describe the couple as having built a shared life in Fairbanks that blended Sasha’s Jamaican heritage with David’s Alaskan roots. They recently celebrated their 10-year wedding anniversary. Relatives noted that the pair enjoyed traveling, watching hockey, and sharing meals together.
David Hart’s sister, Shery Elterman-Hart, said the family had been close to David before he met Sasha. She stated that Sasha fit in immediately, becoming a central part of their circle. Katie Ragsdale, David’s other sister, described the couple’s devotion to their daughter. Ragsdale said Paige was their entire world, noting that the home felt as much like Paige’s house as it was theirs.
The family says Paige displays physical traits that mirror her parents, including her mother’s expression and her father’s sweet tooth. Elterman-Hart held the toddler during an interview and described her as a miracle. The relatives emphasize that Paige is a living piece of the couple who remains on Earth.
