A $100,000 Lowe’s Community Impact Grant funded a full-scale renovation of the Mount Mourne Fire Department’s training grounds. The award, part of a five-year, $100 million national program, was one of fewer than 5,000 projects selected from nominations for the initiative.
The department used the initial funds to install hard infrastructure. This included pouring a new concrete driveway, adding curbs, and laying stone surfaces leading to the facility. These upgrades created the base layer for the training site.
On October 22, a group of community volunteers and Lowe’s Red Vest associates completed the site with hands-on labor. The crew planted trees and constructed a new carport and storage outbuilding. They also backfilled soil and spread grass seed along the edges of the newly poured driveway.
The Mount Mourne Fire Department now possesses a fully functional space for its personnel. The completed facility allows firefighters to sharpen their skills in a modernized environment. The project addresses local needs for first responder infrastructure, a key focus of the Lowe’s Community Impact Program.
The program aims to revitalize hometowns by restoring outdoor spaces and renovating facilities for veterans and first responders. The Mount Mourne site joins other local projects that expand food pantries or restore shelters. The department can now use the updated grounds for ongoing training without relying on external sites.
