Daddy Yankee will release 'La Postal' on Friday, marking his first return to recording a full album since 2025.
The 15-track record functions as a concept project, with each song serving as a love letter to different aspects of the emotion, including romantic, familial, and self-love. The project departs from the devotional tone of his 2025 album 'Lamento en baile,' which he created after embracing Christianity. While the new material avoids the explicit content of his earlier work, it does not adopt an overtly religious theme. The lead single, 'BOTZ (Besame Otra Vez),' establishes this shift by replacing innuendo with direct references to kissing, a motif present in seven of the 15 songs.
The album features a diverse array of musical styles and collaborators. The track 'Rosa Live' was written for Yankee's mother and recorded live with a full band, creating a salsa performance that reflects Puerto Rican heritage. Other productions incorporate local sounds, such as the frog calls woven into the intro of 'Ultimo Beso.' The project also includes collaborations with artists from various backgrounds, including Argentina's Bizarrap on '¿Pa' Qué Llorar?' and Cardi B on 'Cosita.'
Yankee also partners with rising Latin talent and international stars. He works with rapper Myke Towers on 'Se Va' and singer-songwriter De La Rose on 'ENAWO.' In the latter track, he sings, 'Contigo me siento en Puerto Rico,' which translates to 'With you I feel in Puerto Rico.' The album also features 'Pokito,' a collaboration with Indian American superstar Diljit Dosanjh. This track blends Punjabi music with the dembow rhythmic pattern, serving as both a lead single and a stylistic outlier on the record.
This release comes four years after Yankee announced his retirement in 2022. His last album before 'La Postal' was the devotional record 'Lamento en baile,' released in 2025. Prior to his hiatus, he released several one-off singles. His career began in 2004 with the 33-times platinum hit 'Gasolina.' The new album 'La Postal' is rated three and a half stars out of five.
