Binance estimates the financial impact of a recent security breach at approximately $6.3 billion.

The cryptocurrency exchange disclosed that an attacker likely accessed the system through a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer. This entry point allowed unauthorized withdrawal transactions to occur. A subsequent investigation identified additional breach points, though the company has not yet confirmed their specific locations.

Binance stated that the attack was complex and that its teams are coordinating with law enforcement to resolve the issue. The company is currently gathering facts and will share updates as they become available. It plans to publish a detailed technical post-mortem once the investigation is complete and the findings are verified.

To secure the network, Binance has temporarily suspended all deposits and withdrawals while security checks are underway. The company worked with blockchain partners to freeze approximately $3 billion in affected assets on-chain.

The exchange confirmed that user funds remain safe. It will cover all losses using the SAFU fund and company funds. Binance also pledged to publish an updated Proof of Reserves once remediation is finished. The company emphasized that its teams are working around the clock to identify those responsible and bring them to justice.
