Australia was bowled out for 111 on Saturday, losing the third Test in Cape Town by 176 runs.

The defeat marked the second consecutive loss for the visitors, who dropped the three-match series 2-1 to host South Africa. This result also cost them the number one position in the Test world rankings, a spot South Africa claimed immediately.

Captain Pat Cummins acknowledged the gravity of the slide in two straight games. He told reporters that questioning the team's performance was fair and that internal discussions would follow. He noted the squad remains strong but needs improvement to reclaim the top ranking. Cummins suggested that changes in style or personnel might be necessary, stating that the team would work through the issues.

The tactical decision to bowl first after winning the toss on the opening morning proved difficult. This move had occurred only 11 times in Tests at Newlands since 1889. Australia struggled against a surface that wore down, falling to the spin bowling of Simon Harmer. Harmer recorded career-best figures of 10-120 in the match, including a spell of 6-16.

Cummins admitted that his initial plan assumed a high-scoring game where Australia could take 10 wickets on day one. He said the team thought they had a clear path to chase the target of 288. However, he conceded that poor decisions by batters ended the chase within the first half-hour of the day. He described the loss of a key wicket on day five as not drastic, but part of a pattern where players made errors they would like back. The team now prepares to host New Zealand next.
