Apple TV has officially renewed its culinary docuseries Knife Edge: Chasing Michelin Stars for a third season, extending the show's run as the Michelin Guide itself continues to expand into new cities.

The series, which counts Gordon Ramsay among its executive producers, embeds cameras in kitchens across the globe to follow chefs chasing the most prestigious prize in the restaurant world: a Michelin star. Some of the featured chefs are pursuing their first star, others want to add to their collections, and many are simply fighting to hold onto the standing they already have.

Hosted by Jesse Burgess, frontman and co-founder of TopJaw, the first two seasons, each made up of eight episodes, are streaming on Apple TV now. The season two finale arrived on the service on Friday.

"I'm absolutely delighted that Apple TV audiences and chefs from all around the world have truly embraced Knife Edge," Ramsay said in a statement. "Taking viewers on the journey towards Michelin stars is like climbing aboard an epic rollercoaster. You'd better hold on tight, because it's one hell of a ride."

What distinguishes the series, arguably Apple TV's most ambitious entry into the popular food space, is the access it has been granted by the Michelin Guide. The guide is an institution that prizes secrecy, sending undercover diners to restaurants around the world in the hope of accurately capturing a typical dining experience.

"What I love most about making Knife Edge is that, however much time I spend in restaurants around the world, I'm constantly surprised by the extraordinary people and stories we discover," Burgess said. "Behind every restaurant is a very personal journey, and for the chefs we follow, a Michelin Star can represent years of sacrifice, obsession and an enormous amount of hard work."

The show's marriage of travel, culinary competition and docudrama has made it a distinctive part of the Apple TV catalog. It holds a 100 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and earned a nomination at the BAFTA Television Awards.

Knife Edge is produced for Apple TV by Studio Ramsay Global, a Fox Entertainment company. Alongside Ramsay, Lisa Edwards, Lorraine Charker-Phillips and Jill Greenwood serve as executive producers, with James Callum acting as series director.
