Apple officially launched the iPhone Duo on Friday, October 23, marking the debut of its first foldable smartphone. The company released a statement highlighting the global rollout, noting that customers filled Apple Store locations to experience the new device. Team members provided hands-on demonstrations and personalized shopping assistance to visitors eager to see the hardware in person.

The rollout follows a period of high anticipation for the new product line. This week, Mark Gurman reported that Apple CEO John Ternus toured the company’s offices in Austin. Ternus was present at the Apple Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin this weekend alongside retail chief Deirdre O’Brien. The timing coincides with the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix in Austin, a race that Apple streams exclusively in the US.

Apple executives were visible at key locations during the launch. Greg Joswiak, the senior vice president of worldwide marketing, celebrated the event at the flagship Fifth Avenue store in New York City. He was joined by Vanessa Trigub, an Apple retail executive. The company shared images from these and other global locations to document the opening day activities.

Despite the excitement, physical inventory remains a constraint for those without pre-orders. Apple had warned that stock at retail locations would be limited. This caution proved accurate as lines formed overnight at stores around the world. Many shoppers hoping to buy the device on a walk-in basis faced disappointment due to low availability on the floor.

Store staff advised frustrated customers to check the Apple Store app for the most current inventory details. The company recommended looking at in-store stock levels tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. This approach allows shoppers to verify availability before traveling to a specific location, potentially reducing wait times and empty visits.

The iPhone Duo launch represents a significant shift for Apple as it enters the foldable market. The company emphasized the importance of letting customers experience the device firsthand through demos. With global interest high, the next few days will be critical for restocking and managing demand.

As the initial rush settles, the focus shifts to managing supply chains and customer expectations. Apple will likely continue to monitor sales data and adjust inventory strategies accordingly. For consumers, the key takeaway is the need to plan purchases around the app’s inventory updates rather than relying solely on walk-in luck.
