November Social Security checks shift earlier due to Veterans Day and weekend timing
Millions of recipients will see their direct deposits arrive on different dates this month as federal holidays and weekend rules alter the standard schedule.

The Social Security Administration has finalized the payment calendar for November 2026, shifting several distribution dates earlier to accommodate federal holidays and weekend closures. Beneficiaries should check their specific birthday or claim date to determine when funds will hit their accounts.
Three key changes affect the timing of this month's checks. First, Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive funds on Friday, October 30. This early date occurs because November 1 falls on a Sunday, triggering the standard rule to issue payments on the preceding business day. Second, beneficiaries with birthdays between the 1st and 10th will see payments on Tuesday, November 10. This date replaces the usual second Wednesday slot, which is November 11, to avoid the Veterans Day federal holiday. Third, those who began receiving benefits before May 1997 will be paid on Tuesday, November 3.
The remainder of the schedule follows the standard Wednesday pattern. Recipients with birthdays from the 11th through the 20th will receive their checks on the third Wednesday, November 18. Those with birthdays from the 21st through the 31st will see funds deposited on the fourth Wednesday, November 25. These dates apply to retirement, disability, and survivor benefits for individuals who filed claims after May 1, 1997.
The administration assigns these specific dates based on the day of the month a person was born. For those who enrolled in the program before May 1997, a fixed payment day applies regardless of birthday. The agency notes that electronic transfers typically post on the scheduled date, but bank processing times may vary slightly for paper checks.
If a recipient does not see funds on the expected day, the administration advises contacting their financial institution first. Banks may experience delays in posting electronic payments. If the issue persists, beneficiaries can call the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 or visit a local office. The agency states it will review any missing payment case and replace the check if the payment is determined to be due.
