Nike running shoes range from 6.6 to 10 ounces depending on the model and size. A new review identified seven specific pairs that passed rigorous testing standards. The report evaluated sneakers for daily wear, tempo runs, and competitive racing. Each candidate underwent a minimum of 20 miles of testing to verify performance claims. Two podiatrists reviewed the lineup to assess foot health benefits.

The testing pool narrowed to seven approved models. Dr. Rajat K. Lahiri, a podiatric physician at Bay Area Foot Care, highlighted the Nike Structure 26 for its midfoot support. He noted the shoe corrects overpronation, a condition where ankles roll inward. This alignment helps prevent tendon pain and iliotibial band syndrome. Dr. Bobby Pourziaee, a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, also recommended the Structure 26 for runners with flexible flat feet. He cited the ReactX midsoles for their combination of stability and energy return.

For longer distances, the Nike Vomero Plus stands out. Weighing between 8.5 and 10 ounces, it offers extra padding for joint protection. Lahiri praised the shoe for remaining lightweight despite its cushioning. The rocker outsoles in these shoes help maintain momentum during recovery jogs. They facilitate a smooth heel-to-toe transition that reduces load on the joints.

Tempo runners have different needs. The Nike Vomero 18 uses ZoomX and ReactX foam to support faster speeds. Pourziaee suggested this model for runners with plantar fasciitis due to its shock absorption. The Nike Pegasus 42 offers a lighter option with a rocker design that reduces arch stress. It features full-length Air Zoom units for added propulsion.

Race-day athletes often turn to carbon-plated models. The Nike Vaporfly 4 includes specialty plates for improved efficiency. Lahiri stated these shoes help maximize performance. The Nike Alphafly 4 is the lightest in the group at 6.6 ounces. Seema Simmons, vice president of North America running at Nike, described the fourth iteration as the most responsive to date. Testers wore the Alphafly 4 for the New York City Marathon and the Nike After Dark Tour half-marathon.

Buyers should perform a bend test before purchasing. The shoe should bend at the forefoot but not fold in the middle. Proper fit requires a thumb's width of space between the longest toe and the front of the shoe. Spacious toe boxes allow toes to splay naturally. This design prevents blistering and improves balance during runs.

Specialty stores can provide foot scans to determine individual needs. The best choice depends on personal biomechanics and comfort preferences. A higher stack height offers more cushioning but may reduce stability. Runners should prioritize immediate comfort over an extended break-in period.
