Lennart Karl reached the five-goal mark in the Champions League at 18 years and 254 days old. The Bayern Munich midfielder scored in the 54th minute of a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. His strike followed a deflected shot from Tom Bischof that Robin Le Normand failed to clear. This specific age metric places Karl in a distinct statistical category among European football players.

According to UEFA records, Karl is the fourth youngest player to achieve this feat. Only three individuals were younger when they recorded their fifth goal in the competition. Lamine Yamal holds the record at 17 years and 291 days. Kylian Mbappe followed at 18 years and 120 days, and Raul finished third at 18 years and 162 days. The data confirms a trend where younger players are reaching career milestones at earlier stages than previous generations.

Harry Kane, the team captain, managed the attack despite a scoring drought that lasted through his second consecutive match. The England forward had previously won the Ballon d’Or but did not find the net in Madrid. He provided the assist for the second goal, releasing Konrad Laimer to fire the ball into the roof of the net. Kane also came close with a first-half volley and two second-half attempts.

Karl’s five goals were spread across five different matches this season. He scored in a 4-0 victory against Club Brugge and a 4-1 win over Atalanta. He also found the net in a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal and a 3-1 win over Sporting. In Madrid, he nearly scored earlier in the match when Kane fed him, but the attempt went over the bar. The result extended Bayern’s winning streak in the group stage.

The match took place in the absence of head coach Vincent Kompany. Kane stepped into a leadership role to guide the team through the lineup changes. The 2-0 scoreline secured three points for the German side. Karl’s performance added a new data point to the historical record of young strikers in the tournament.
